So we have reached the final half term of Year 3, I cannot believe how fast this year has gone.
Below are the final spelling lists for the Summer term.
Please note the week beginning – 26th June the spellings will be tested on Thursday 29th June due to the Friday being a PD day.
What a fantastic year we have had in Chameleons! It has been an absolutely brilliant year teaching all of you and I am proud of everything you have achieved in Year 3.
Well done for all your hard work and effort this year!
We will end the year of blogging how we started…
Today we were very lucky to have a visit from Ruth who works at Africa Alive in Kessingland. She came to teach us all about animal skeletons and we were lucky enough to have 3 animal visitors too!
We had a look at some pictures of different animal skeletons and learnt about endoskeletons and exoskeletons as well as looking at some bone artefacts.
Thank you Ruth for such an interesting experience!
In English this week Chameleons have been busy learning our new model text ‘Friendly Sloth Flash’ which is a non-chronological report. The children have worked very hard to learn the text off by heart and learn all the different features from the text.
Here is the text map so you can practise at home –

Video performance coming soon.
Wow! What a fun week we have had in Year 3. STEAM week has been an excellent learning experience for all the children and I have been so impressed with all of the fantastic work they have produced. What has impressed me the most is the conversations I have had with the children and the questions they have asked to develop their understanding and the way they have all shared their knowledge with each other and all the adults in school.
Year 3 were given the topic ‘Vehicles’ however Myself and Miss Harvey decided to focus on Cars as we knew this was a particular interest of the children in our classes. Below are the photos from this week sharing just some of the super work the children have been busy producing.
Sketching Miss Hicks’ and Miss Harvey’s Cars

Chameleons have had a fantastic week learning all about money. We have been busy adding and subtracting money, solving missing number problems and calculating change. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and it has been wonderful to see the children asking so many questions and challenging themselves with their work.
The children had to create ideas for a stall for the Maths fair to be held on Friday. Everyone had lots of fantastic ideas and it was really hard to narrow it down. In the end we decided we would hold a disco, a name the teddy stall and pin the microphone to the singer challenge. It was nice to see the children working collaboratively to prepare resources for the stalls and create posters to advertise them.
This afternoon the children had a fantastic time at the Maths fair, they enjoyed setting up their areas and then were delighted when the parents joined us for lots of fun at the fair. They enjoyed looking around all the other stalls created by different year groups with mums, dads, grandparents and carers. Year 3 made good profit and look forward to buying a treat with the money we made in the upcoming weeks.
Thank you to all the parents who supported us with this event.
– This weeks homework is MyMaths and is due in Thursday 22nd June.
– Next week is our whole school STEAM week, please could all children bring in a minimum of 1 plastic recyclable bottle to allow us to complete the exciting activities we have planned. Thank you.
Chameleons have been working hard to develop their calculation skills this week. We have focused on Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication so far.
We have been using different methods in Y3 to help us with calculating larger multiplications. We have used arrays using concrete materials, the grid method using concrete material and the written grid method. The children have worked incredibly hard to solve lots of calculations, check out some of their arrays and grids below.
